Prize, The (1963) IMDB rating: 6.60 Plot: In Stockholm, Sweden to collect his Nobel Prize in Literature, American writer Andrew Craig stumbles across a plot to kidnap a fellow Nobel laureate. Whats up with this girl?
OK I’m going to make this as short as possible. I met a girl, I’m 18, 19 in march shes 17, 18 tomorrow. I add her on facebook, then she adds me on every social network i have (myspace and twitter). The vast majority of that list would be good choices, with a few exceptions: The Dostoevsky, Tolstoy, and Flaubert works are too advanced for the great majority of teens, and Ulysses too complex probably for any teen. On the other end, the books by Edgar Rice Burroughs are too simple. If you’re looking for fast paced adventure in fantastic settings, there are many writers more recent than Burroughs who do it far better.

Of the books listed, my personal favorites are Pride and Prejudice, The Trial, The Picture of Dorian Gray, and Huckleberry Finn (although the last 1/3 or so of Huck Finn is not nearly as good as the earlier sections). The Sherlock Holmes books on the list are also great, and I loved reading them at about your age.

I would begin with the smallest book and work your way up to the largest book. If you start with the largest book first, you might get overwhelmed.
I would recomend reading Alice and wonderland. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. I got through it in less than a day too. I have a shot attention span so that’s saying a lot

Writing a fantasy/sci-fi – An organization with questionable methods?
Hey there,

I’m in the middle of writing a series that i’m hoping will be rather unique. It has elements of fantasy and sci fi, but it is primarily a drama/mystery.

I’m writing a novel that takes place in a different world somewhat similar to ours, although there aren’t any countries here that are quite as developed as our world’s most developed countries. Some places still even use swords as weapons. There is decent technology and large cities, but they have any capitalistic governments or anything like that, so it would probably be much different than the place you live in.

One reason for the lack of development was a near-apocalyptic event. I won’t get into it much right now, but just know that it was not a full blown apocalypse; it was just very destructive. Billions died, but they aren’t at the point where they need to start mutliplying to avoid human instinction.

There is one particular place off the coast of one of the continents that seems to be the home of spirits. It is generally accepted by the people that going over there is BAD, although there are of course some who are skeptical of the rumors, considering the lack of proof, and the fact that anyone who has claimed to have made contact with the spirits can’t seem to describe what they look like.

They live primarily off the coast of an uncivilized nation, which consists of several scattered tribes. The spirits occasionally come to the nation itself and roam around the villages.

At this point I’d like to give you a good explanation of the characters, but for the sake of time I think I’ve got write more about the organization I mentioned in the title. See, there’s basically a small team of people who try to explore the supernatural. We’ll call them TEAM-X. They tried to keep what they were working with low-key, but the government found out about it. Now the nation’s prince (soon-to-be-king) happens to be very superstitious person, and insists that they should be made to stop, and should instead continue their work, as long the government will ultimately gain something.

Oh, and did I mention there is much talk of starting a war? The near post-apocalyptic event left a lost of different people’s and groups, wanting different things.

The group (or TEAM X) mainly wanted to explore more for the sake of exploring. That is mostly because its members are a bit eccentric and interested in how people can explore more of the supernatural.

And then the prince is thinking there may be something to gain militarily friom this. After all, he is only the prince in a small nation. If he had control of great power, he could create an empire and overthrow the 5 mysterious elders, who basically rule most the world.

So, Back to TEAM-X, what they try to do is basically find a way to communicate with spirits, and get a machine to work. A key piece of technology in that machine is an ancient artifact as well as some sort of plant like bio-organism. They need to decide how they will accomplish everything. Will they work with or without the governments funding?

The real key to how it all works is a person. They find a slave who mas the ability to interact with certain things from the ancient world, including the plant-like-organism, the artifacts, and the spirits.

TEAM-X first tested the machine about 10 years before the events of the novel start. The first test began when the team found a slave who had these powers (the "ancient" powers), and they brought him into the same room as a spirit, and a prototype of the machine. The spirit seemed to be garding the artifact, but when the power-possessing slave came in the room, The spirit started acting differently, and they could communicate. It seemed like an important, but almost friendly conversation. The spirit seemed to move quickly, and everyone in the room felt drugged, and they were completely out of it.

Quick character summary: A man called Jariel was the first one to wake up. He was a 28-year-old member of TEAM X. Throughout the story, he battles between living a life for his fiance, or a life of excitement.
