Christians, A Question For You On Baptism for Babies and Original Sin?
Ok, this question was inspired by some answers to my last question on Christianity and homosexuality, here if you didn’t answer it and would like to:
http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index; _ylt=Aj7p6NhjCrwNDWFElXwh5s_sy6IX;_ylv=3 ?qid=20091118085149AAx8e5n

Many of the Christians who answered said that being baptised as a baby is not scriptural. I know for a fact that at least the Lutherans do it (have a close friend who is a Lutheran and have attended many of her family’s baptisms for newborns).

I was told by these Lutherans that baptism as a baby gets rid of Original Sin. Not that it atones for any other sins that a person may commit in their life. Only for erasing Original Sin.

Later on, these Lutherans have Confirmation classes, etc. after which they accept Jesus and his sacrifice, and believe he is their messiah, etc. Around age 12 or so I think.

So my question is, if you as a Christian don’t believe that baptism for babies to get rid of Original Sin is scriptural, then how DO you get rid of Original Sin from yourselves?
oh, p.s. i dont give thumbs down or up on my questions. thank you for your answers.
David you didnt answer the question.

You rid yourselves of ALL sin, not just original through water baptism at a time in life in which you can understand the concept of it! A baby has no cognitive ability to realize/recognize the need for its’ salvation and is therefore innocent of its’ sin. Therefore, when a person becomes old enough to begin understanding right/wrong, they should be trained to understand sin, but not COERCED into baptism! Salvation is FREELY given and FREELY received! No one part of it should be coerced.

"Infant baptism" is unbiblical and it is blasphemy against Jesus Christ and Jesus’s shed blood for our sins.

No group that does "infant baptism" is Christian.

Water baptism cannot wash away ANY sins. Only the BLOOD OF JESUS washes away sins! Including original sin.

So first god tells you to go forth and multiply and then when you do he tells you that you have sinned. How does that make any sense.

The apostle Paul said that if a Jew was to get circumcised, but did not live like a Jew, that it is the same as if he was not circumcised at all. In the same way, if a Christian is baptized, but does not live like a Christian, it is the same as if they were never baptized. If a person has never been baptized, but lives for Christ, it is the same as if they were baptized. Spiritually speaking, a person is baptized with the holy spirit, once they have given their life to Jesus.

Babies will go to heaven, no matter if they are baptized or not. God is just, and will not punish a child for his father/ mother’s doing. Nor will he punish one, who does not know about him. As it is said " It is better to not know me, than to know me and turn away." Now let me be clear, there is nothing wrong with baptizing your baby, I just want you to know that until your child knows who God is, and is consciously aware of the decision in front of them, they are in no danger.

We got a lot from the Protestant Reformation and I don’t go around bashing Lutherans and others who practice this. But it is not Biblical.

The idea of baptism follows belief in Christ, Biblically. Christ alone gets rid of "original sin."

To make the decision to accept Jesus and follow Him you will have to have a clear understanding of right and wrong. You will have to be at an age in which you commit to a decision and mature enough to deal with the consequences of your actions. Where did the idea of
